Mississippi Art Colony
Traveling Exhibition
On Exhibit
Oct. 1 thru Nov. 10, 2008
The Mississippi Art
Colony is the oldest artists run art
organization in the country recognized by The
Smithsonian Institute. The mission of The Mississippi Art Colony is to provide the
environment for the individual and professional growth
and development for two-dimensional artists with emphasis on
education and outreach.
Approximately 40 artist gather twice a year, the end of
April and September, at Henry S. Jacobs Camp in the rolling
piney woods of Utica, MS. Together with an instructor, artists paint for five days
and participate in various activities such as group critiques and
demonstrations.
A juried exhibition is selected by the visiting artist
instructor on the first day and awards are designated from that body of work. Approximately 100 works of art are submitted and 26 are
selected for the juried exhibition. The traveling show visits different venues throughout the state of Mississippi until the next Colony.
Edgardo Kerlegend of San Miguel, Mexico was the
2008 Fall Colony instructor.
