Summer Art Camp
“I Think I’m Turning Japanese”
Come and Explore

the Art and Culture

of Japan

at the GumTree Museum of Art


July 20—24, 2009
Session I Ages 5—9 9am—11:30am
Session II Ages 10 and up 1pm—3:30pm


Instructors:

    - Museum Director Gena Yarbrough Lee Co. Schools Art Ed. Coordinator
Day one students will work in clay and participate in a traditional tea ceremony.
Day two is my favorite! Gyotaku, fish printing. Bring a plain white tee shirt from home.
Students will make Sumi ink using a Suzuri stone, carve their own Chops, and explore bamboo brush painting on rice paper. (chops are a stamp of one’s name)
Day three is Origami and Kirigami day, paper folding and cutting the Japanese way.
Day four students will make their own Japanese wind socks.
Day five will be finish up projects day. Students will play traditional Japanese games and eat traditional snacks that are enjoyed by Japanese children.
