Mississippi Arts
Commission Offers Artist
Training Opportunity Across the State
The Mississippi Arts Commission
(MAC) will be visiting nine communities across the state to bring an
innovative and unparalleled small business training opportunity to artists
of all disciplines. These training sessions stem from the successful
partnership formed after Hurricane Katrina between MAC, the Mississippi
Development Authority (MDA) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
to help Gulf Coast artists. The training sessions were so well received, MAC
will be offering the training to all Mississippi artists and organizations
working with individual artists. Included will be marketing ideas,
assistance with pricing, taxes and other business-related information.
Instructors for the sessions are staff members of the Mississippi
Development Authority, the Small Business Development Center and the
Mississippi Arts Commission.
“The fact that we can offer artists across Mississippi the same training
provided to other small businesses is a powerful statement,” said Malcolm
White, MAC Executive Director. “The arts are being recognized as a vital and
necessary presence in the business sector and artists are leading the way
for small business development in Mississippi.”
The workshops are free and lunch will be provided to those who make
reservations prior to the cut off date for each location. Call 601/359-6030
for details or to make reservations. For the address of each location, visit
