The GumTree Museum of Art soon will bulge with
the work of talented young artists.
" We'll be: showing over 500 pieces," said Gena
Yarbrough, Lee County Schools' elementary art
coordinator.
"Impressions," which runs from March 1-14, will
include work by kids from first to sixth grades.
Since the school year began, students have been
making sculptures, mixed-media works, paintings and
more.
"We want them to work with a variety of media and
techniques," Yarbrough said. She decides on
the projects, then students get to unleash their
creativity with diverse results.
"They make it their own," Yarbrough said.
The exhibit will feature pieces by students at
Shannon Primary, Shannon Elementary, Saltillo
Primary, Saltillo Elementary, Mooreville Elementary,
Verona Elementary and Plantersville Middle schools.
Parents, students and anyone interested in the arts
are invited to a free opening reception from 5 to 7
p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the museum.
"I would love for the whole community, whether they
have children in Lee County Schools or not, to come
and see what the kids are getting to do in art
class," Yarbrough said. "We're celebrating their
creativity."
